“Joining the classes is the best way to deal with UK weather – the rain, cold and sleet!”
Clearly the day I chose to give Laurie her flowers was a perfect day for outdoor exercise and she had just completed the 9.15am class which included using bodyweight, battling ropes and bands – all the B’s for Bath’s original Bootcamp 🙂
We have several international members in our 9.15am class currently, including women from Canada, Australia, USA, Spain and Germany and all our members have interesting stories, lives and experiences. We all learn from each other and they all help each other, whether it’s where to get a handyman from or recommendations for places to take grandchildren or even hotel recommendations for holidays.
Back to why Laurie joined – she had turned 50 and it was a good way for her to meet people as she was new to the area, along with helping her to embrace the UK weather.
It’s true that you can’t fight it so you might as well get stuck in!
I my experience, it’s the really wet or windy sessions that people “enjoy” the most, because they feel a huge sense of achievement at the end. They have a little polish of their golden halo and go about the rest of their day feeling great!
Although she was apprehensive as she thought it would be full of super fit women, she soon realised that it’s a friendly group of normal women of all ages and abilities, who support each other. She has build such a wonderful friendship group, many of who joined us on the first retreat in Morocco earlier this year.
I hope she inspires you to try something hard and out of your comfort zone – you never know, it could change your life.

ps She is our second 10 year member at Zest (well really our 3rd, but the first one moved to Sunderland) and we have another one coming soon.

Outdoor exercise helps mental and physical wellbeing!
PS If you didn’t know I used to be an overweight, non-exercising asthmatic so believe me when I tell you that healthy living really is the best thing you can do for your mental and physical wellbeing. Click here to book a trial week at our friendly and fun fitness classes
* Although the word bootcamp can bring images of beasting and endless burpees – we actually don’t operate like that at Zest which is why if you watch the Bath Life Awards video you’ll hear me describe it as group personal training style class. Many of our members have been coming for years so they get coached on exactly what they need.
